Mission Focus

The past week I’ve enjoyed plenty of free time to play with the kids. Much to my delight, they are not nearly as good at Cricket as the Indians were. I sometimes get cocky…but then I remember that I’m batting against eight and nine year old orphans. My favorite game by far has been playing chess. I’ve been playing quite a bit with kid named Ishara. He keeps his chess board – one of his only possessions – under his bed. He doesn’t know much English, but it doesn’t matter. Some friendships don’t require words. His smile communicates a peace and happiness that brings joy to all who see it. Even when he loses, he still has that smile on his face as he asks to play one more game.

Chess with Ishara
